| About Me: |
| Bio: |
| I've dabbled with guitars, Mandolin, Banjo, Harmonica, Piano, cello, and bass. I didn't have a musical background, so I've taken a lot of shortcuts. I'm too lazy to sit down and try to absorb years of theory, so I've done what I always do; just play the damn thing! My main intrument of the last 2years has been the bass. I've spent over a year playing it like a guitar, and the last 8 months trying to get in tune with the drums.
I 1st picked up guitar in highschool, banged out a few power chords, and dreamnt of being a Kurt Cobain Clone. It was an image and attitude thing at the time. Soon after I left for college, the 6 string went on the shelf. I started getting serious at 20 when I dusted it off and started playing acoustic rythmn with another guitarist. We played mostly early 90's rock shit. I turned to bass out of convience when I got a drummer. Being a 3 piece you can't have 2 guitars!
I continued mimicking the guitar riffs with a pick for almost 2years. I started using my fingers, experimenting with slap, and realizing my role as the bridge between the kick, snare, and the guitar.
I've also started to expand my listiening from grunge to funk, R&B, soul, and blues. My top bassists have to be- Billy Sheehan for musicianship and precision, Victor Wooten for THE BEST thumb in the biz, not to mention he puts those hardcore/screamo kids tyo shame with his bass twirling, Steve Harris for his undying drive to rock! For the stamina to use that gallop for 3hrs straight, Tim Commerford for his surprisigly low-end and fresh riffs, Justin Chancellor for 46&2!, drones in D, mystique, and, well, they're 1 of the best fucking bands of this generation! and Tommy Shannon for his roots in blues, trademark stiff 2 finger walk(which a big part of my approach), and the fact that anyone who can jam with Stevie has to be a bad motherfucker!

| Musical Skills/Knowledge: |
| Slapping, Tapping, Poppin', and walkin'. I'm still trying to master that steve Harris 3 finger gallop, it's easy to do, but hard to maintain without my middle finger sticking here and there. something like that has to be precise to push the groove. Watch Iron Madien's Rock in Rio, everytime the camera's on the guy, he's just chuggin' away!
Generally I use a 2 fingers blues walk/ stacatto funk approach with my pick hand. I try keep slapping to an absolute minimum. The last four months have been intense in training my fret hand. I've finally got my pinky working. I even have a longer reach in thast hand, however I've now lost a lot of my ring, so now I have to retrain. |
