| I'm relatively new to the bass world, I just started in November. I mostly teach myself, though I do take lessons. I've also taken up guitar as a second instrument (well technically it's my first, but it's my second priority...whatever) and that I only teach myself.
I'm in my friend's band, but so far we don't have a name or any original songs. We mostly do covers, and occasionally we just start improvising, which never sounds that good. There is one riff that we play sometimes that has the potential to evolve into a song, but we haven't elaborated on that yet. Currently, I'm also working with random riffs that sound good to maybe make a song of.
Uhh...what else about me...I was born and currently live in Los Angeles, California (known as "the jungle" to GnR fans). Having lived near it for so long, I really dont' understand that Wheezer song about Beverly Hills. It's not all that great a place. :-P Sorry if that ruind people's hopes and dreams. Also, L.A. isn't as bad as people make it out to be.
I'm left-handed (making me infinatly superior to all your "righties") but I don't play bass that way because first I started to learn guitar, and my dad tried to teach me right-handedly because he didn't have a left-handed guitar and I got used to it and stuck with it. I'm still a southpaw at heart, though. The way I see it, being left handed but playing right handedly gives me an advantage in terms of left-handed strength and dexterity, allowing me to move around the fretboard faster. It also helps me develop my unique bass playing style, which is a sort of combination between rock (in every way, shape, and form) and a little bit of jazz.
I like to consider myself partially British because my mother's family is mostly British and because I'm slightly an anglophile.
I recently developed a new style of guitar where you hold the tremolo bar between your pinky and ring fingers while picking, forcing you to use it while playing. It creates an interesting effect, but it's hard to play effeciently like that. Yeah...
